History "1898 - 2017"

Our traditional Brush manufacture was established in 1898 in Bechhofen, a small city in Bavaria. Here Karl Feurer established a small Brush Factory where he produced a wide range of finest Hair- and Quill Brushes.

Soon the Company had to be expanded and Karl Feurer needed more space for the production of his paint brushes and so in 1903 he bought a bigger area in the small village Burk. Until now our company is located in this community amongst of meadows, fields and forest.

The company's first costumers lived in the neighbourhood, but soon costumers in foreign countries - especially in the south and south-east of Europe - were won. During the 1930’s Feurer & Sohn established a market in the British Kingdom and the United States of America.

The name “kolibri” was not yet featured as a brand name for high quality handcrafted paint brushes.

In this time – more than 80 years ago – the customers in the United States needed much time from the order until to receive the artist brushes. Only the order needed more than 3 weeks by post mail from New York to Burk in Germany.

In the year 1936 Otto Feurer took over the company from his father Karl. In this time period the first reconstruction of building complex was carry out.

The time during and after the Second World War was very difficult for the company. The cooperation with many foreign customers was interrupted, but 1950/1951 the export could be taken up again.

Since than the exports got higher continue every year. Today over 70% of the production is exported in 42 foreign countries, e.g. European States, United States of America, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and Mexico.

The company was developed further by Eduard - Eddie - Feurer from 1960 to 2002.

With hard work and engagement the cooperation between the company and the customers were developed further and new customers were persuaded to buy the handcrafted artists brushes.

Many customers buy their brushes from us for nearly 60 years.
